The Blue Book Online
The Craft of Scientific Writing

Some books on writing I have read and can really recommend:

Style & Grammar

The Elements of Style -
by William Strunk & E.B White (MacMillan)
very thin booklet on styles and do's and do not''s)

On Writing Well -
by William Zinsser
(VERY enjoyable and has GREAT literary and scientific book recommendations; mostly about style )

Working with Words -
Brian S. Brooks & James L. Pinson ( St. Martin's Press)
(concise book on englisch grammar basics)

Before the Story
- George M. Killenberg ( St. Martin's Press)
(a book on journalism, techniques, ethics, etc)

CreativeWriting:

Wild Mind
- by Natalie Goldberg

Writing Down the Bones
- by Natalie Goldberg
(both extremely enjoyable and inspiring; She writes about the process of getting down and putting ink to paper and suggests exercises and techniques)

Journal Writers

Life's Companion
- by Christina Baldwin

One to One
- by Christina Baldwin
( both beautiful and inspiring. Life's Companion has very lovely graphics and great ideas if you like to write journals)

A life of One's Own
- by Joanna Field
(more autobiographical than stylistic; but a very interesting book)

If you are interested in Linguistics:

Syntactic Structures
- Noam Chomsky
( or anything by him at all; he writes mostly about linguistics though and may not be everyone's cup of tea)

The Language Instinct
- by Steven Pinker (Morrow)
(actually if language fascinates you, and the way the brain deals with it, you can read most of Pinker books; he's a linguistic researcher)
