Advice from a dying man
A moment of your time, an infinity of mine;
for me to tell you of my worldly learning.
In all of my years, I have seen tears,
from many a heart 'a burning.
Before my life is through I have some advice for you;
so that you may avoid my fate.
By doing a good deed, to those who beg and need;
a good man makes hinself great
Kindness should never be "sold"
because it's more valuable than gold....
and is a virtue in mankind.
A suitable reward is given for every action,
but only a good deed gives satisfaction;
...and that is true happiness.
Make use of your time as best that you can,
always be prepared to lend out your hand.
Make wise use of your earnings,
never put them to waste;
gambling and crookery should you never taste.
Carefully chose a wife, for a good one is rare.
Treat her with love and you'll always be a pair.
Raise your children to be upstanding and bright.
Teach them the difference between what's wrong and what's right.
Guide them with wisdom throughout their life
and you will have both peace and pride.
I ask for no repentance, for I haven't commited many sins;
except for a wasted life, which now comes to an end-
